Chief photographer Joseph Coscia, Jr. (@joseph.coscia) and Senior Imaging Systems Manager Scott Geffert (@scott.geffert) worked together using our @Snap36 turntable and robotic arm system, to capture images from 360 different angles, of Tullio's Adam (36.163), which will be used to build 3D objects, photogrammetry, 3D printing, and further research.

1985: @nmafa acquires this face mask (20th century, Democratic Republic of Congo). How would you describe it in 1 word? #africanartat50 There is perhaps no work of art more associated with the National Museum of African Art than this iconic mask by an unidentified Chokwe artist. Its name, pwo, refers to an adult woman who has given birth and its form depicts a beautiful young woman adorned with tattoos, earrings and an elaborate coiffure. The artist carved this mask with very delicate, even, thin walls from Alstonia wood (probably congensis). Its rich reddish brown surface was probably obtained from a mixture of red clay and oil and its beautiful patina is a sign of long use. The half‑closed eyes placed in large, concave sockets are covered with white clay (kaolin) to convey introspection and insight. In performance, a male dancer dresses like a woman in a costume of braided fiber that completely covers his body and hides his identity. He wears a skirt, carries a fan and moves in slow, precise steps to emulate and honor women.

Sadly, today is the last day to see "Tetsuya Ishida: Saving the World with a Brushstroke." The exhibition has touched so many visitors and sparked countless emotions and reactions. We are heartbroken to see it go. If you have a chance, we urge you to see the exhibition before it closes today. #AsianArtMuseum #TetsuyaIshida #SavingTheWorldWithABrushstroke #JapaneseContemporaryArt #JapanesePainting #InstaMuseum #OnlyInSF

Don't let the sun & blue skies fool you, it's one degree here at #StormKing. But Mark di Suvero's 'Figolu' looks picturesque in the #StormKingSnow!
